All this girl does is find some stupid selfish interest to advocate. Activist my ass. More like selfishist. Jesus Christ don't you have better things to do with your time than harm other peoples health. The academic row part of the policy is valid. We may not smoke along academic row or withing 20 feet of any UMBC building.

The only exception to this is that there are some designated smoking areas next to buildings where the 20 foot rule can be ignored since it is a designated smoking area, such as by the one against ITE between ITE and Engineering.

I think that she was simply making sure that the student voice IS represented.

The smoking policy that was passed through the SGA, and therefore was voted on by the representatives of the student body, was the one stating that you have to be 20 ft. from buildings.

The policy that ResLife was enforcing was not a policy that had ANY student input at all.

In my opinion, Paula was being a true advocate for students by making sure that the administration can't create policies and start programs with absolutely no student input- and for that, I think she did a great thing.

You want to run for SGA and you are trying to make smoking more open for smokers and less open for non-smokers? You wont have my vote. I understand that the department was wrong and you uncovered it, but you seemed proud. I do not think I would like to have someone who does not have the WHOLE student body on their mind. Smokers are a small portion of the UMBC community and yet they have the ability to smoke on most of campus; seems a little disproportional. Not to mention it has been proven to be a health hazard. The university was just trying to look out for the health and well being of the students, as well as follow the direct wishes of the majority. As a non-smoker I'm tired of having unhealthy and rather foul smelling second hand smoke blown in my face on Academic Row on my way to class. Thank you for your service in uncovering a problem, but please do no more.
